Real Madrid defeated Manchester City in thriller penalty shootout 4-3 after a draw and 4-4 aggregates in Champions League Quarter Final
Manchester City clashed with Real Madrid in the Champions League Quarterfinals at the Etihad Stadium. It was the sixth encounter between managers Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti in the UEFA Champions League.
Real Madrid’s Rodrygo opened the scoring in the 12th minute, giving them the lead in the first half. However, Kevin De Bruyne equalized for City after Rodrygo’s early goal, showcasing City’s dominance with 33 shots compared to Real’s eight. Man City had 68% possession while Real Madrid only had 32% possession throughout the game.
After 120 minutes of play, both teams ended in a draw. Neither Erling Haaland nor Kevin De Bruyne were on the pitch for the penalty shootout, with Haaland substituted before extra time.
City’s goalkeeper Ederson, in just his second game back from injury, bravely stepped up to take a penalty. Luka Modric missed Real Madrid’s first penalty, but City lost due to missed penalties from Bernardo and Mateo Kovacic. Bernardo’s shot was saved by the Real goalkeeper, while Kovacic’s attempt wasn’t successful.
Despite Ederson’s successful penalty, Real’s Antonio Rudiger, Nacho, Lucas Vazquez, and Jude Bellingham capitalized on their chances, securing Real Madrid’s victory. They will now face Bayer in the Semifinals.
