Surya Kumar 78 runs played vital role in scoring 192/7 against Punjab Kings
Mumbai Indians faced off against Punjab Kings at their home stadium. PBKS won the toss, and Sam Curran opted to bowl first.
With an early wicket of Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav stepped in as the impact player, batting at number three. While Rohit Sharma kicked off this IPL season impressively, Suryakumar struggled initially after returning from injury.
Rohit Sharma made a brisk 36 off 25 balls before being dismissed by Sam Curran. Suryakumar, after a slow start, found his groove and crafted a splendid 78 off 53 balls, supported by Tilak Varma who contributed 34 off just 18 balls.
Harshal Patel claimed 3 wickets for 31 runs, while Sam Curran took 2 wickets conceding 41 runs.
Punjab Kings’ top order crumbled against Jasprit Bumrah and Gerald Coetzee, who took 3 wickets each. Despite Ashutosh Sharma’s fiery 61 off 28 balls, Shashank Singh’s 41 off 25 balls, and Harpreet Brar’s 21 runs, PBKS fell short by 9 runs while chasing the target.
Jasprit Bumrah’s stellar performance earned him the Man of the Match award for his figures of 3/21. Additionally, Bumrah surpassed Yuzvendra Chahal in the Purple Cap race, boasting a total of 13 wickets.
